Overview
The analysis is used to define the structure of the data file used by the project.

You can describe in the analysis:

Note: To modify the description of a data file (or the description of its items):
  • Select the data file in the data model editor.
  • Select one of the following options from the popup menu:
    • "Description of data file".
    • "Description of items".
Reminder: In a WinDev, WebDev and WinDev Mobile application, the terms "LDM" and "Analysis" are interchangeably used to define the structure of the database associated with a project.

Adding a new file

Creating a new file

To create a new file:

    • the logical name of the file. This name will be used to handle the data file.
    • the caption that briefly summarizes the subject of the data file.
    • the representation of a record in the data file. This representation improves the meaning of the questions asked when describing the links. This option must be preceded by an indefinite article (A or AN).
    • whether the data file includes an "Automatic identifier" item. The value of this item is unique for each record and it is automatically calculated by the HFSQL engine.

  4. In the next step, specify the type of access used for the data file. Depending on the selected type, this data file will be handled by the HyperFileSQL engine, by an OLE DB driver or by one of the native accesses (SQL Server, Oracle, ...).
    If the type of access used differs from HyperFileSQL Classic (network or single-user), you must specify the characteristics of the connection to the database.
    In the next step, specify the type of database associated with the data file. Depending on the selected type, this data file will be handled by the HFSQL engine, by an OLE DB driver or by one of the native accesses (SQL Server, Oracle, ...).
    If the type of database used does not correspond to HFSQL Classic (Network or Single-user), the wizard asks for the characteristics of the connection to the database.
  5. The created data file becomes the current data file. The description window of file items is automatically opened. It allows you to describe the items of the data file.Then, specify:
    • whether the size of the data file can exceed 2 GB. This option can only be used if both the file system of the current computer and the system file of the computers where the application will be deployed support the NTSF format (Windows 2000, NT or XP).
      Caution: If this option is checked, this data file cannot be opened in Windows 98 or Me.
    • whether the data file must support the replication. This option is used to manage the automatic updates of identical and remote databases. See replication for more details.

Importing a preset data file description

To import a preset description of a data file:

    The preset data file is automatically inserted into the current analysis.

Color for the descriptions of data files
The following colors are used to quickly identify the types of data files in the data model editor:
  • Blue for the data files coming from a Native Access.
  • Orange for the HFSQL Client/Server data files.
  • Brown for the HFSQL Classic data files.
  • Green for the ODBC data files.
  • Gray for the Hyper File 5.5 data files.
